Encouraging more residents to participate in sports or engage in sports activities more often is a significant challenge for many municipalities and sports associations in the Netherlands. Sportmatch provides the solution to this challenge.
Sportmatch is the online platform of NOC*NSF that brings together sports offerings and the demand for sports. Through Sportmatch, sports associations can easily showcase all the offerings of their clubs, while municipalities can display all local sports activities to their residents. This ensures an up-to-date and comprehensive range of sports activities throughout the year, 365 days a year. This promotes sports participation for both athletes and non-athletes in your municipality and at your clubs.

What problem does Sportmatch solve?
Sports participation faces challenges. The offerings, especially at non-commercial sports clubs, are often difficult to find. Potential athletes rarely have the time to search through all providers' websites, and the current offerings do not always align well with their preferences. Research shows that people increasingly want to engage in sports in their own way, at flexible times, and with an interest in new sports. Introduction and access to these sports are essential. Sportmatch supports municipalities, sports federations, clubs, and residents in addressing these challenges.

Within the program 'Sports Promotion and Sports Offering' in the department of sports participation, I guide projects and events to external partners, particularly sports federations and municipalities. With great joy and passion, I fulfill the role of:
Advisor: Guiding municipalities that are host cities of the National Sports Week for an optimal local sports week.
Product Owner: Onboarding sports federations and municipalities, advising them on the use of Sportmatch to introduce more residents or new athletes to the sports offerings

The Sportmatch project is co-funded by the European Union under the theme 'Grassroots sport programmes and infrastructure innovation.' The knowledge and insights gained in this project are shared with both national and international partners, such as sports associations, municipalities, and European National Olympic Committees (NOCs). The project is a pilot project with a duration of 24 months and started in the first quarter of 2022.
